TACARE Report

Subject¡G Misidentifying Main Wheel Well Door
Time¡G 2010/5/7 Classification¡G Flight Operations
 Brief Description¡G

The reporter stated, there were three doors in each main wheel well of Airbus A330, including: leg door, hinged door, and main door, among them, the main door was not listed in CDL (Configuration Deviation List). According to regulations, when any equipment that was not listed in the MEL (Minimum Equipment List) or/and CDL had failed, the aircraft should not depart from any airport, therefore if the main door of the main wheel well was damaged, the aircraft should not be released. However, the reporter once misidentified the leg door as the main door, if this misidentification happened when the main door was damaged, the aircraft could be misidentified as airworthy and be released.
